FAQs

What does a tech job look like today?

In today’s business world, nearly every job requires some level of technology skills. However, not all tech jobs require sitting in front of a computer writing code. Today, tech jobs are much more dynamic.

What are the most in-demand jobs and how much do they pay?

To review what tech skills are most in-demand, check out our most recent Tech Checkpoint - powered by ECCO Select.

Where do I acquire or grow my tech skills?

In Kansas City, there are numerous educational programs available and a list of these options can be found here. Tech training programs range in scope, costs, and outcomes. They all provide a foundational skillset to increase employability so you find the perfect entry-level tech job. Some of these programs even guarantee graduates are fully employed within a certain amount of time after graduating. These skills are best honed doing actual work. Tech jobs require dedication to life-long learning and constant improvement. After all, technology can change rapidly and there are numerous resources available to keep your skills sharp.

What training program is right for me?

With more options available than ever before, most participants can learn these skills in a matter of months, not years. There will numerous factors in making a decision - cost, time, and outcomes. The right decision will be based on how these factors best accommodate your personal situation.

Are there funding opportunities to help subsidize the cost?

YES! Depending on your personal situation, there are numerous financing and grant options available to subsidize the cost. One factor to consider, the mean tech wage is 82% higher than the median wage for a worker in Kansas City. Typically, this increase in wages can more than justify the cost to attend training programs in the short-term. Long-term, a technology job can dramatically alter an individual’s wealth and job security.

Can I work and learn at the same time?

In some cases, yes. However, everyone’s situation is different. Each program will provide more information for you to make this decision. If you’d prefer to work while learning, we recommend considering an apprenticeship program so you can earn income while learning on the job and in the classroom.

Where can I sign up to learn more about opportunities that become available to me?

No matter where you're at in your tech career, we want to help.
