Since 2017, the KC Tech Council has released KC Tech Specs, a report capturing data and analysis around Kansas City’s tech industry. The report is designed to give the tech community, businesses, educators, lawmakers, civic leaders and students a consolidated, data-driven resource to find information about our region’s tech landscape. Data sources are cited on every page and feature a compilation of relevant statistics from KC Tech Council’s partners such as CompTIA and JobsEQ.

Kansas City: Fast-Growing & Tech-Powered
16% growth in tech jobs (2021 → 2023) — the KC region’s tech workforce expanded rapidly at a time when many markets were tightening.
$35.5 billion in tech’s economic impact (2023–24) across the Kansas + Missouri region.
Tech jobs account for 6.9% of KC’s workforce, driving a 9.0% tech-economic share—outperforming many peer metros.
Cost-effective yet high value: KC offers competitive tech wages adjusted for cost of living, making it an appealing location vs. Austin, Denver, Chicago, etc.
Shift toward leadership roles: In 2024, Computer & Information Systems Manager roles made up 22% of all tech job postings in KC, up from 13% in 2019.
