4×4: Transcendent Software
Get acquainted with KCTC member Transcendent Software and their Founder & CEO, Jacob Dubin.
ABOUT TRANSCENDENT SOFTWARE
1. Give us your organization’s quick origin story.
Transcendent Software grew out of 25+ years of building technology to solve real business problems. After years of leading technology teams, building products, and helping companies through growth and acquisitions, I wanted to build a company where we could bring that same experience to other organizations. Today, Transcendent helps companies modernize software, automate complex workflows, integrate AI thoughtfully, and turn ideas into working products.
2. What problem are you currently solving in the KC tech industry?
We’re helping companies bridge the gap between what AI and modern technology promise and what actually works inside real businesses. We build systems around processes, exceptions, legacy systems, security requirements, and human decisions rather than asking businesses to change everything to deliver the promises new technology can bring them.
3. What can we expect to see from your company/organization in the next year?
Growth! We’re expanding our consulting and software development work while also bringing our own products to market. CoffeeBreak is our platform for helping people safely put AI to work on real-world missions, and we’re launching its first commercial products now. We’re also continuing to grow our team and build partnerships with other KC technology companies.
4. How can KCTC members get more involved?
Come talk to us! We love meeting companies that have a difficult technology problem, an idea they haven’t figured out how to build, or a workflow everyone knows should be better. We’re also actively looking for partnerships with other KC companies whose products or expertise complement ours. Referrals and introductions are always appreciated, and we’re happy to return the favor.
ABOUT JACOB DUBIN
1. If your office was The Office, what character would you be?
I wish I could say I was an avid viewer, but based on what I have seen in clips, probably a combination of Jim and Dwight. Jim’s sense of humor, but unfortunately I’m also the guy who will spend way too much time figuring out exactly how something works.
2. What’s an app you can’t live without?
This has changed so much over the years. I think now it has to be ChatGPT. I have woven AI into much of what I do on a daily basis and trust it with a lot. I also have spent enough time working with AI to know when not to trust it, which is just as valuable.
3. What’s your favorite hidden gem in Kansas City?
I don’t know if it is hidden anymore, but downtown Lee’s Summit is pretty neat. I grew up in LS, and my first house was downtown. I love meeting people for lunch or coffee there.
4. What technology tip are you always giving your clients?
Don’t automate a process you don’t understand. Technology, especially now with AI at our disposal, can make a good process better, but it can also make a bad process much worse. Not to mention an inexpensive process very expensive. I spent years telling people to start a process with people, write it down, draw a flowchart, learn the exceptions, then we can automate as much of it as possible and kick exceptions to people. Some things never change.
