ABOUT ARBORPOINT ADVISORY GROUP
1. Give us your organization’s quick origin story!
Sean and I first met in January 2019 at Cloud Technology Partners (CTP) shortly after its acquisition by Hewlett Packard Enterprises. Since then, we've collaborated closely on various projects, including customer-facing engagements, the development of intellectual property, and training other consultants, building a strong partnership over the past five-plus years. In March, we ventured out and founded Arborpoint Advisory Group.
2. What problem are you currently solving in the KC tech industry?
With decades of IT leadership and consulting experience, we specialize in helping enterprises make sense of the tech landscape and align their business outcomes with a modern IT operating model using a structured approach. In our B2B model, we focus on enabling partners to use our approach to deliver unique, client-focused engagements that simplify the complex, build trust, and create value. By leveraging our unique balance of practical execution and strategic consulting experience, we accelerate progress for both enterprises and partners.
3. What can we expect to see from your company/organization in the next year?
In 2024, Arborpoint Advisory Group is focused on expanding our network, growing our client base, and broadening our portfolio of services. We offer structured digital advisory services that accelerate business objectives by simplifying the adoption of AI, IT sustainability, cloud, and other leading digital capabilities. Our aim is to continue down the path of addressing future challenges, providing our clients with valuable insights from the field.
4. How can KCTC members get more involved?
Arborpoint is excited to be members of KCTC. We look forward to being actively engaged and encouraging others to be involved. We’re happy to share our expertise and perspective through talks / workshops for the group. I have worked for over thirty years in the Kansas City technical community and care deeply about its development. Working together with KCTC and the membership, we have an opportunity to continue the improvement in our community.
ABOUT RICHARD AMOS
1. If your office was The Office, what character would you be?
Hmmm. . . Truth is that after spending decades in management at large firms, I could never successfully watch The Office. Every time I tried, I would find myself thinking, "You can't do that—they'd be fired."
2. What’s an app you can’t live without?
I would have to say Miro. I believe that collaboration across a diverse set of opinions leads to the best understanding and solutions. While I love using a physical whiteboard, the challenges of COVID-19 taught us new ways to collaborate. For me, Miro’s virtual whiteboard was the perfect answer.
3. What’s your favorite hidden gem in Kansas City?
Returning to Kansas City from Florida completely changed my perspective. I've come to appreciate the diversity in food, culture, entertainment, and even the weather. We lived in a small beach town in Florida, and I'll never forget my first trip to a grocery store here in the metro area. I was amazed to see around 30 varieties of ketchup—quite different from the limited options in a beach town's store. This same diversity is reflected in the restaurant choices, entertainment options, and activities available. Kansas City is truly a remarkable place to live.
4. What technology tip are you always giving your clients?
I often remind clients that all transformation initiatives should be directly linked to specific business outcomes. If you cannot demonstrate tangible changes in revenue generation, cost optimization, customer or employee satisfaction, or innovation and growth, it's important to reevaluate the initiative. Projects not directly tied to business outcomes are usually the first to be cut from the budget during economic downturns.
